A bigger demand for bigger boats

Many existing yacht owners are turning in their smaller power yachts for larger, more luxurious mega yachts. For Burger Boats, just one of the many mega yacht manufacturers, the average length has stretched from 104 feet to 147 feet.

"Customers who already own boats want larger ones, and often they want to stick with the same brand, so companies at all size points are lengthening their boats," said Thom Dammrich, president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, the trade group for the recreational boating industry.
